Breast Cancer Action Kingston's 6th Annual “Share the Care” Family Golf Tournament
August 17, 2011 - 'Share the Care' Golf Tournament Report
WOW!!!!! OK - Double WOW!!!! What a day we had at the 'Share the Care' Golf Tournament on Friday, August 12, 2011!!!!!
From early start until the end, it was an AMAZING DAY!!!!!
Sarah and her crew had the cars/vans packed ahead of schedule and on their way to Colonnade...and surprising; everything fit. The golfing participant's arrivied early and the Registration/T-Shirt/Pink Table volunteers checked them in and gave them their Registration Bags, T-Shirts, and the Mulligan and Raffle Ticket Volunteers made sure they had those.
The tents/shelters, chairs and tables were setup and ready at the correct holes, where the Hole Spotters and 'special event' volunteers would be comfortable.
Anthony, Donna and Blair from the Colonnade Pro Shop had the carts all organized and our Sponsor Signs and Closest to Pin/Longest Drive/Closest to Dragon signs placed waiting for the action to begin.
Once the hot dogs were consumed, the golf shoes laced up, it was 'welcome time' by David Cupido, Tim Durkin and I, and then we were off, led on the course by the Pro Shop staff.
The 'starting horn' sounded and a pleasant afternoon 'on the links' began. From the 'hoots and whoops' that were heard around the course, I think eveyone enjoyed their round.
The Ballroom looked very festive with the gerbera plants and water bottles on the pink covered tables. The Silent Auction and Ticket Box displays and the Live Auction items at the front of the room were ready for the many bids. The entertainment music by Dave Ahara was inviting as the golfers checked out the displays and the bidding began. Hand Massages were given by Annette Gencarelli and Colleen Hanna from Aloette Cosmetics.
Tana and the kitchen staff presented another fabulous meal again, including Tana's famous 'baked beans'.
And then Tim took over the microphone for the Live Auction and the action in the Ballroom was unbelievable! As Sue Davies mentioned, it sure was a hard act to follow. Sue thanked the many sponsors, donors and especially those golfers in attendance for their support of Breast Cancer Action Kingston.
The Raffle was drawn at 8:00 p.m. 1st prize winner: Brian Breitweiser, 2nd prize winner: Bruce Porter and 3rd prize winner: Corinna Greenevasen.
Then the golf prizes were handed out. Closest to the Pin: Donna Wright, Marlene Fenton, Scott Lister and Tasso Doulas, Longest Drives: Cheryl Harvey, Kathy Wolsey, Tasso Doulas and Cliff Ernst. The Women's Team Winners, with a score of 70, were Judy Hineman, Berniece Bos and Judy Hamilton. The Mixed Team Winners, with a score of 64, were Cheryl Harvey, Hugh Harvey, Kathy Dowdell and Michael Peachy. There was a three-way tie for the Men's Team, with a score of 64, Team 1: Tim Durkin, James Durkin and Cliff Ernst; Team 2: Frank Kontos, Tom Doulas, George Doulas and Andreas Smirnios; and Team 3: Mike Cupido, Brian Breitweiser, Jake Dahm and John Potter. By the counting the number of sub-par holes, the winning team with 9 holes under par was Tim Durkin, James Durkin and Cliff Ernst. Tim's team returned the 'cash prize' money back to BCAK. The Putting Contest was won by Judy Chown.
And then the golfers were gone, and the 'striking of the set' began; a group of very tired volunteers packed their cars/vans and headed for home.
The 'not complete' financial sheet shows we raised over $28,000.00.
A huge THANK YOU to… our great Golf Committee, the always willing Volunteers, and our very generous Sponsors and Donors!!! This could not have happened without YOU!!!!
