Chestmates News - Winter 2013
|
Chestmates are approaching the upcoming season with enthusiasm and excitement. The goal this season will be to attend at least four Dragon boat Festivals. So far, three festivals have been chosen: Port Perry on June 15th, Barrie on August 24th and Kingston on September 21st.
Brant Stachel, an exercise and fitness specialist is working with the team at the Limestone Health Physiotherapy gym on Sunday mornings. There are 3 trips planned to go to the Trent University Paddling Tank as part of our effort to maintain our fitness level and improve our paddling technique.
We are once again welcoming some new ladies to the team this year. They have already been involved in 2014 fund raising activities and active participants in our exercise programs and our tank practises.
Chestmates will be sporting a new look with a slightly different style and colour of personal Floatation Devise (PDF). The jacket that has been chosen is a Salus “Eddy.” It features a tapered back for clearance in shoulder and arm movements. There is a 6-point adjustment system for better fit and reduced ride up.
Thank you to Sharon Ansell for setting up a Chestmates “Facebook” page. This is a great way to show off our pictures and keep in touch. Chestmates would like to extend a thank you to everyone who supports the Chestmates team. Thank you to DC Marine for maintaining and storing the boat throughout the winter months. Thank you to the staff of the Collins Bay Marina for donating dock space and helping with the launching of the boat each spring.
Thanks to Colossal Events, Minos Restaurant and all who participated in our Murder Mystery Dinner on February 9th, making this fundraiser a huge success. We SOLD OUT, raising over $4,000.00 which will go towards Chestmates attending the 2014 International Breast Cancer Survivor Dragonboat Festival in Sarasota, Florida.
Paddles Up! Elaine Agarand, Chestmates Team Captain
